How to Save Money on Car Hire

Rates of Hiring Car vary significantly depending on the transport company, the type of car being Hired, and the length of time the vehicle will be needed. Whether you’re Hiring a minivan for a family vacation or a luxury sedan to pick up a new client from the airport, these ideas will help save money on your next car hire.
  1. It’s important to research and compare the hiring costs and policies of numerous car hire company. Renting/hiring at the first one that comes to mind or at the one advertising most often on television almost guarantees that you’ll pay more than necessary.
  2. Prices may vary among locations within the same franchise, which makes it important to research of the individual agencies in an area. A transport company at an airport, for example, usually charges higher rates than one in a nearby small town.
  3. Using a membership discount or loyalty point codes can save 10 percent or more off the daily hiring cost.
  4. Some transport companies provide coupons for a percentage off the fee or for a free day’s rental. These coupons may be found in newspapers, travel magazines, credit card inserts, or advertising circulars.
  5. Depending on the rental agency’s primary customer base, it may be cheaper to rent a vehicle on certain days. If the agency frequently serves business customers during the work week, for example, weekend rentals may be less expensive.
  6. The daily rate for renting a vehicle over an extended period can be less expensive than a short term rental. Many agencies offer a discounted rate or free days if the vehicle is rented for at least five or seven days.
  7. Some agencies may offer a discount if the rental is booked and paid in full at least a week before the date the vehicle will be needed.
  8. Smaller vehicles cost less to rent than larger ones. A large SUV or truck can cost more than twice as much to rent as a mid-sized sedan. It’s always a good idea to select the smallest vehicle that will suit your needs.
  9. Some car rental agencies may charge an additional fee for more than one driver or for drivers under age 21. If this type of fee will affect you, it may be advantageous to agree that only one person – over age 21, of course – will drive the vehicle.
